VACANCY: President of Seth Mokitimi Methodist Seminary

The Methodist Church of Southern Africa seeks to appoint a President to lead the Seth Mokitimi Methodist Seminary (SMMS), based in Pietermaritzburg. The primary purpose of the SMMS is to form transforming leaders for Church and Society and to prepare prospective candidates for ministry. A critical quality for this position is the incumbent’s commitment to the values underpinning the life and work of the Seminary.

The incumbent will be accountable to the SMMS Board of Directors for the overall leadership, management, administration, operations, effectiveness and wellbeing of the Seminary, its faculty, staff, seminarians, infrastructure, and its relationship with the Methodist Church, the University of KwaZulu-Natal and other denominations with students at SMMS.

Requirements
 The incumbent should preferably be an ordained minister of the MCSA in good standing and able to offer moral and spiritual leadership and formation of seminarians. Applications from ministers from other denominations are however also welcome if they fulfill the other requirements of the position.

 He/She will provide overall leadership as the public representative of SMMS

 An appropriate PhD is preferred, or at least a masters degree or equivalent, as the Seminary offers Bachelor of Theology, Honours degrees, a Diploma in Practical Ministry and a Higher Certificate in Christian Ministry

 Understanding of higher Education regulations and accreditation process

 Excellent people skills, Wesleyan-compatible theological insights, management skills, and teaching ability. Fundraising experience will be advantageous.

 General management and knowledge of the MCSA’s organisational policies, governance, systems and information systems. Advanced MS Office (Excel, Word, and Power Point) and analytical ability.

 Excellent line management skills; excellent verbal communication and advanced business and report writing skills.

 A proven track record in effective ministry and institutional leadership and development.

Key Performance Areas

Provide inspirational, ethical, and spiritual leadership for the effective running of the Seminary.
 Provide leadership with regard to the growing of SMMS’s financial base to ensure long term sustainability.
 Form collaborative strategic networks with the Pietermaritzburg Cluster of Theological Institutions as well as other local and international theological institutions/organisations/universities.

 Ensure that SMMS is positioned as an employer of choice as well as a reputable institution of higher education.

 Build a highly productive team that is performance driven.

 Ensure compliance with good governance principles, organisational management best practices, and the Department of Higher Education rubrics framework.

 Exercise overall financial oversight, ensuring that proper systems, controls, and procedures are in place.

 Manage internal and external stakeholder’s relationships to inspire confidence in the Seminary.
