SMMS President, Prof R Simangaliso Kumalo, is currently on a trip of America and Europe.

His first stop was at Madeira Methodist University in Puebla, Mexico, where he attended a conference of the International Association of Methodist-related Schools, Colleges, and Universities (IAMSCU).The aim of the conference is to share experiences, ideas and to network. The conference is held after every four years.

Most Heads of the Methodist educational institutions were in attendance. SMMS was represented for the first time in this body by Prof Kumalo and Prof Stephens Hendricks from the Methodist Connexional Office. The conference ran under the theme Tearing Down Walls: Pathway To Peace, Healing And Humanity.

On the side-lines of the conference, Prof Kumalo met with a number of interesting people in world Methodism. He met with Prof Jose Luis Gonzalez, founder and President of UMAD, The Madeira Methodist University of Mexico, which he founded thirty years ago. Prof Gonzalez is highly respected leader in the field of Methodist Education.

Prof Kumalo also held positive talks with Dr Kim Cape, General Secretary of the General Board of Higher Education and Ministry (GBHEM), which supports the Field Education work of the seminary. Dr Cape promised to visit SMMS soon to strengthen the collaboration.

From Mexico, Prof Kumalo will travel to the United States. The final leg of his trip will be at the heart of Europe, in Germany, where he will visit the German capital, Berlin, and the Bavarian city of Bamberg.
